Construction of New Lassa Ward at Kenema Government Hospital Nearing Completion

The construction of a new, custom designed Lassa Ward at the Kenema Government Hospital in Sierra Leone, that began in 2012, is now nearing completion. Managed by VHFC researchers from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and funded by a grant from the United States Naval Facilities Command (NAVRAC), AFRICOM Humanitarian Assistance Program, the development project will result in a new 48 bed Lassa Ward dedicated to the care of patients with Lassa Fever. The new structure will replace the current 24 bed facility that has been functioning at overcapacity for many years.

Work on the ward is scheduled to be completed in early 2014.
